The most famous and most enigmatic structure in the city of Vesper Ridge. Far taller than any of the Velvet Wards mansion spires or the Foundry Wards smokestacks, it looms over them all from the exact center of the Tower Ward, the exact center of the entire city. Its architect is unknown, its date of construction is unknown, and its function is unknown. Ostensibly it was built to keep track of time, and intricate systems of cogs and gears are visible behind its clock faces, but the clock never ticks. There are no visible entrances to the building, and no blueprints from its construction have ever been found. In fact, no written documents that mention the Clocktower seem to exist, anywhere. Stranger still, anyone who attempts to describe the Clocktower in writing, or portray its image on a visual medium, soon finds their work lost, the document inevitably vanishing into thin air the moment it leaves their sight.
Very recently, the Clocktower stirred to life for the first time in living memory, the hour hand ticking from 12 oclock noon directly to 1 PM, and then several days later to 2 PM. Both times, this inexplicable motion was accompanied by the cacophonous clanging of bells, presumably originating from a belfry hidden within the tower itself. Some Vesperites report having experienced headaches and strange visions as they watched the clock tick.
According to the strange automaton M-41D, the Clocktower is somehow connected to The Gloaming Lantern.

title: Dorothy
---
A talking umbrella, apparently. Ophile discovered her trapped with Sylvester in the depths of a magical purse from Ashcrofts Antiques, and Dorothy was most grateful to be rescued from her embroidered prison.
Shes rather stylish in appearance, with dark purple fabric and delicate gold embroidery around the perimeter of her canopy. Her ferrule and handle are both carved from shining ivory, and her whole body is light as a feather. When she speaks, the sound emanates loud and clear all around her, even though an umbrella certainly should not have any way of producing a voice. Her manner is graceful, refined, and a bit snobbish.

He has a real knack for his craft, and his inventions are often quite useful, but he believes that engineering is "more of an art than a science" and seldom bothers to include any kind of fail-safe in his designs. His products are sold at a discount, on account of the explosions.

A mysterious device Margot recovered from the burning customs bureau at the start of our story. Deeply magical, it produces its own light without an apparent fuel source, and seems to react to the thoughts or emotions of its bearer. Through careful study and meditation, Margot has gained a rudimentary attunement to the lantern, but its purpose, and much of its power, is as of yet unknown.
Chambermaid Calliope recognized the lantern, and warned the party that some “dangerous individuals” may be interested in it... a warning that was contextualized when Lord Calix Hypatia later asserted to Ophile that the lantern actually belongs to him. For now, at least, it remains safely in our partys hands.
According to the strange automaton M-41D, the Gloaming Lantern is somehow connected to The Clocktower.

title: Sylvester
---
A talking umbrella, apparently. Ophile discovered him trapped with Dorothy in the depths of a magical purse from Ashcrofts Antiques, a plight ill-befitting a destined adventurer like him.
Sylvesters build is reliable and sturdy, though his moss-green fabric is marred by a few mud stains. His ferrule and handle are both carved from smooth ebony that has suffered a few chips and scratches. Despite his weather-worn appearance, his springs and moving parts still operate perfectly. Sylvesters personality is easygoing, playful, and a bit sarcastic.
