So far, the constabulary has been completely foiled in its attempts to catch this killer. The colloquial name for the countless monsters that inhabit the Labyrinth, the network of caverns lying beneath Vesper Ridge. It is unknown how old they are, how they got beneath the city, and how many of them exist. Due to the sheer danger of their habitat, few attempts have been made to study them in an academic capacity, and consequently many aspects of their biology (such as how they reproduce and how they feed) are also mysteries. Cave horrors have never been seen venturing onto the surface, but despite their reclusiveness most cave horrors are dangerous and will attack if approached. Even so, the industries of Vesper Ridge rely on cave horror tallow to function, and so hunter-miners of varying skill and preparedness frequently venture into the Labyrinth to hunt these creatures.

Deeply magical, it produces its own light without an apparent fuel source, and seems to react to the thoughts or emotions of its bearer, but these traits are trivial compared to its true power: the ability to rewrite time itself. For reasons unknown, and through means unknown, the lantern has formed a connection with the members of our party, and dragged the very sun backwards across the sky to undo Ophile's untimely death.

A magical rifle unlike anything known to modern engineering. It is long and sleek, and the hues of its wood and metal both seem to subtly shift each time light falls upon them. For the most part, it is built like a typical rifle: barrel, sights, trigger, stock, bolt action. But one highly unusual feature sets it apart: a crystalline sphere, fist-sized and iridescent with countless shimmering colors, is embedded where the firing mechanism should be. The gun's "chamber" is a narrow opening in the crystal itself, such that the bolt chambers bullets directly into the sphere.

Encountered by the party in the Harbor Ward, and later in The Mediastinum, this 15-foot-tall abomination resembled a haphazard, vaguely humanoid assortment of machinery, pipes, rebar, earth and clay. In place of a head, it bore a twisting rubbery tube that emitted a blinding light, which seemed to carry various magical properties. Rather than walk, it hovered just above the ground, and a strange ethereal glow poured forth from its entire body like vapor off of dry ice.

For reasons unknown, the Searchlight had been following Calliope through the city, seemingly invisible to everyone else, until the party heard the sounds of their fight and helped the maid slay it. Emi, who was also present, said she could not see or hear the slightest trace of its presence.

The second searchlight’s presence was even more enigmatic, seeming to claw its way into existence before our party’s very eyes within the strange, otherworldly chamber of the Mediastinum. Both searchlights were equally hostile.

The name of a malformed sort of creature discovered by the party in the basement morgue below Cortis’s funeral home. Though the supplicants’ exact nature is unknown, their jagged teeth and nails, burning hot breath, and mess of scar tissue in place of eyes or noses clearly mark them as something unnatural. According to Cortis’s testimony, they were created by the Bloody Butterfly.

A towering dragon with stony flesh and great jagged jaws. His four eyes glow an eerie blue and his acidic breath melts flesh and iron alike. Together with the Faceless Hunchback he lurked in the abandoned Darcy Glassworks building, apparently engaged in some scheme involving a captured priest of the Guiding Way, though it was interrupted by the valiant efforts of our party.

Five stories of sturdy stonework and showy gold embellishments immediately set this structure apart from its surroundings in the western end of the Sunset Ward. Or, they did, until extensive fire damage reduced the splendorous facade to a soot-smothered ruin. Twice as tall as the second-tallest structure in the ward, the River Gates Branch Office acted as Parliament's stronghold in this relatively lawless area of the city. Daunting in both name and purpose, its functions were many: each floor housed multiple large courtrooms to process immigration, visitation, civil and criminal cases, and multiple offices to issue and distribute Permits of Stay and Leave. Its top floor included a set of small but lavishly furnished suites to house the higher-ranking officials in charge of the building's operation, and its rooftop served as a watchpost for the constabulary, including a docking station for small airships. Beneath the building is the Sunset Ward Penitentiary Complex.
